Simon's Wedding

Band entertains as Bass Trombonist Marries

On Sunday 29th May 2005 the band ventured the 25 miles or so to Silchester just south of Reading to perform at the wedding of its Bass Trombone Player Simon Wettenhall.
The grand surroundings of Silchester House provided the venue for Simon’s Wedding to Jo.

No sunshine, but a least a dry day greeted the band as it set up in the garden of the house.

The wedding service took place at 2.00pm and at 2.25pm the happy couple emerged to the rousing sound of the band playing Kevin Ackford’s march Crowning Glory, very appropriate. Simon had asked the band to add a touch of colour and tradition whilst the formal photographs were being taken.

So from 2.25pm to 16.00pm the band treated the 150 or so guests to a wide range of brass music.

The band were assisted by Gary Terrar from the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army on Solo Horn, Gary’s brother Paul is the bands second man down.
Gary kindly offered his services with both the bands Solo Horns on holiday.

Music ranging from traditional brass numbers to foot tapping favourites from the world of Pop Music was the order of the day.

As the happy couple made their way towards the band, Ian struck up the request Simon had made earlier in the week. An arrangement of the famous ‘’Stripper’’. Simon apparently met his future whilst stripping wallpaper at a friends house and this led to the request. Ian admitted to being rather unsure about this choice at a wedding but having played it to loud cheers all was well.

The band wound up its set at 16.00pm as the guests disappeared off to the main reception.

10 Band members enjoyed a late Sunday lunch at the local Red Lion Pub before returning to Silchester for the evening reception where they enjoyed both a barn dance in the early part of the evening followed by a live rock band.

The band would like to wish Simon and Jo every happiness for the future.
