Annual Dinner 2005

The first social event of 2005 for the band was the traditional annual dinner this year once again held at the Hare & Hounds Public House on the outskirts of Marlow. For the second year running the band was to enjoy the delights of the restaurant contained within the pub.

36 band members and partners converged on the pub on Monday 21st February 2005. The previous few days had been rather fraught for the organiser Sally Marshall as the weather forecast was not kind for the Monday evening, the forecast was predicting some of the infamous white stuff.

As Monday progressed there was no sign of the bad weather and we all held our breath. 7.30pm and all was clear and the paid up 36 duly arrived to enjoy the evening. What an evening it was!! The pub provided a wide range of food choices for everyone to a quality that even surpassed last year. Spread far and wide across the restaurant the band members could be heard enjoying each other’s company, the table in the far corner seemed the most boisterous. Brian, Sally, David, Sue, Alan and Julie could be heard a fair distance away!!

During the evening Ian and Sally presented some musical orientated spot prizes. David Evans could be heard joking that Rod had only been to two band dinners and had won a prize each time!!!! Everyone blamed the band Chairman, as he was responsible for pulling the names out of the hat (well ok plastic bag!!).

The evening flew by and soon 11.00pm came and everyone noticed a thin white layer had covered the ground outside. After some well earned thankyous to Sally and the head chef of the Hare & Hounds the band members drifted home smiling after a tremendous evening.

It turned out the white stuff was only in Marlow….so even the weather behaved.

Thanks to everyone for making the evening so special and the band was delighted to see bass trombonist Ken Westgate back with us after a period in Goa.

The next band social event is a trip to the Swan Theatre High Wycombe to see our friends of the ‘’ World Famous’’ Brighouse & Rastrick Band
